Collection of late 19th c Edinburgh Evening Courant Newspapers with interesting news and sporting section covering golf, hare coursing, football, horse racing from 1870-1873 (5) to incl newspapers February 4, 1870 with details with regards to "Monument to Allan Robinson St Andrews" - erected by members of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews in memory of golf's greatest champion, Allan Robertson. It goes on to give further details of the obelisk, the sculptor and its whereabouts. Allan Robertson died 1st of September 1857 aged 44 years and for many years was distinguished as the champion golfer of Scotland; January 2, 1873 with report on Warrender Golf Club New Years Day handicap sweepstakes match played on the Bruntsfield Links detailing the list of winners, scores and weather conditions; January 3, 1873 recording the results of St Andrews Golf Club half yearly competition complete with list of winners and their scores over 18 holes; January 4, 1873 with the report of interesting matches played at St Andrews players included Tom Morris Sen, David Strath, the Hon Charles Carnegie, Tom Morris Jr, Mr George Glennie (Blackheath) et al, some really interesting results. Plus another report on St Nicholas Club for the Eglinton medal and other prizes played over the 12 hole course; January 6, 1873 the full report on various matches played at Prestwick Links what would appear to be mostly singles with other reports on various football matches, Hare Coursing, Horse Racing, etc
