J W Young Unidex Mk2, with plastic in cloth bag

J W Young Unidex Mk2, with plastic in cloth bag. Note: The Unidex Reel was designed in 1959/1960 and only two prototypes were ever produced. It was intended to be an automatic clockwork fly reel and the clockwork spring was wound up by drawing line from the reel. When loose line needed to be recovered on to the reel drum, the releasing of the brake allowed this to happen automatically. The first prototype was thought to be too heavy and some of the components which had previously been made in metal were re-made in plastic, in an attempt to save weight. It was eventually decided that the Tooling costs would be far too high to start producing the reel to be sold in volume.
