Very early heavy iron by unknown maker c1850 - large head, hooked, concave faced iron is virtually identical and fits exactly over the image of the iron from the end of the feather ball era, shown on page 106 of The Clubmaker's Art book by Jeff Ellis, with good sawtooth hosel nicking, the shaft has been secured to the head by the early method with the retaining pin fitted front to back instead of the usual side to side method, slightly bowed shaft retains a good period hide grip with thick cloth under listing, 36" overall length, blade 4.5x2", hosel 5" long
