Charles Dickens (2) - The Mystery of Edwin Drood and Christmas Stories & Other Stories - earliest issue 1870 being a bound copy of the six original parts - all plates present and text is complete, and also with five of the original six upper blue-green wrappers as issued in the original instalment parts. A rare first edition of Dickens' last book, left unfinished at his death. It was meant to have been issued in 12 instalments, but the death of Dickens meant that only six - as in this volume - were issued. Bound in late olive-brown calf with marbled boards, a little rubbed. The original wrapper covers are bound in the rear, with wrapper six bearing a slip reading 'eighteen pence' over the one-shilling price confirming that this is the earliest issue, plus Christmas Stories and other stories, first edition 1894. Burgundy cloth boards with gilt lettering, slight rubbing to edges and spine, interior contents appear good.
