Hugely Rare 1911 French International Rugby Cap

Hugely Rare 1911 French International Rugby Cap: Scarcely ever seen, a beautiful honours cap from just the second season of France's participation in the Five Nations tournament. In marvellous condition despite its age, cream velvet six-panelled example with gold braiding and 1911 to peak & red & blue Olympic style rings, E (for Ecosse, Scotland) and A (for Angleterre, England) to three of the panels. Full gold wire tassel present. Slight fraying to internal satin lining, otherwise excellent and a close to unique chance to own & preserve great early French rugby history. It is strongly suggested, though not a certainty, that this may be the cap of fly-half George Peyroutou, who was the only player with just those two career selections for France. He played for Aviron Bayonnais, then Perigueux in 1910-11, whence he gained his caps. He settled in Madagascar, where he helped establish rugby, very popular there today, and sadly died from plague in 1926. The Antanarivo Stadium was named after him. Superb opportunity, so rare
