1891 Hugely Rare & Magnificent North v South Rugby Dinner Menu: A thing of beauty and great survivor, the 4pp fold over card menu with teams, officials and toast list from what it proudly proclaims 'the first N v S match held north of Leeds'. It was at the Grand Hotel, Newcastle, on the 19th Dec 1891, and this marvellously designed/decorated item for what was then often in effect the English final trial includes some of the greatest names of the day, on and off the field. This of course predated the 1895 'Schism' with the N Union, and Lockwood, Alderson, Rotherham, Marshall, Ashworth, Bromet etc feature, with portraits of Rowland Hill, Harry Vassall & Chair E T Gurdon, RFU President, drawn to the cover with its fine elaborate artwork, and even an impression of the Tyne swing bridge. Pride galore, a real event. Some foxing to one rear edge, otherwise remarkable good at over 130 years of age! A terrific piece of very early rugby memorabilia
