Rare "Golf Match Club Record Book 1897-1938" - 1st ed in the original green and gilt cloth boards - 339 pp to incl Foreword by John C Craigie which highlights the formation of the club in the London area after Mr Ernest Lehmann attended one of the Dinners of The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers why not form a club near London to meet at dinner during the winter months and make matches in the same format as the HCEG. A meeting was held and a list of 30 well known London golfers was made out for invitation. The first dinner was held in 1897 at The Bath Club, 19 members attended the rules were discussed and amended - membership was confined to 50 - all matches were 36 holes - 9x matches were made and £19 15s changed hands over dinner. Other notable dates were recorded incl the death of F G Tait who was killed in action in February 1900; each appointment of captain was recorded to incl Bernard Darwin in 1906 and every other captain right up to 1938. The membership and guests was like a Who's Who to incl L M Balfour-Melville, H G Hutchinson, Tom Vardon, H S Colt, B Darwin, Mure Fergusson, J C Hutchison, Herbert Fowler, J L Low, C J H Tolley (W.19, L.5, halved 1), H L Doherty (Wimbledon Champion), J E Laidlay, F G Tait (W.12, L.2 Halved 2), C.J H Tolley, R H Wethered (W.2, L.3 (interestingly twice against Tolley) and Halved 1 (again v Tolley) et al. Every member's match, venue, odds, score and results are recorded from 1897 to 1938 - venues included every major golf club in England and Scotland - in fact very similar to The Seniors Golfing Society of today - overall (VG) From the late David Easby Estate
