Of Historic Importance - The Berkeley Clubs - a unique, rare collection of 14 scare neck woods from 1840-1895 by prominent clubmakers, formerly belonging to the Berkeley Family at their Spetchley Park Estate, Worcestershire. The clubs were likely used by various members of the family as each club carries the initials RVB (Robert Valentine Berkeley) and RMB (Robert Martin Berkeley) impressed to each shaft below the grip. They are all contained in a bespoke wooden carrying case with an oval brass plate inscribed to Robert Berkeley, Spetchley, Worcester attached to the lid. The Berkeley family is an influential English family of the landed gentry dating back 850 years in which it has continually held its estates in Gloucestershire and Worcestershire. The family also owned a house in London in the early 1700s in an area named after them in Berkeley Square. THE CLUBS: 1.
