Scarce 1898 Great Yarmouth Golf Club "The Young Cup" silver medal - complete with swivel bar and the remnants of the original red silk ribbon and bar-the reverse is engraved "The Young Cup" was one by Rev K Bagnall Oakley-87.6.81-1898. Note The Great Yarmouth Golf Club was founded in 1882 - the Club arranged matches with Royal Blackheath, Felixstowe and Cambridge University. The Club was fortunate, in the early years, in being adopted by the members of Royal Blackheath who provided Captains, Officers, members and Trophies. The Club still plays the Blackheath Medal (a scratch competition) and Royal Blackheath in turn play for the Great Yarmouth Cup, donated by the members of Great Yarmouth in 1900 in recognition of all Royal Blackheath had done to assist them in establishing the game at Yarmouth.
