Kitchener Announces - The End of The Boer War - Original telegram form dated June 1st 1902, addressed to 'All GOC' Stating: 'Peace was signed last night'. The message is written in pencil, and the form contains a further note from James Jones in ink stating that he was Kitchener's personal telegraphist in the Boer War and that this was written by Field Marshal Lord Kitchener at 7.30am on June 1st to the Governors of Natal, Cape Colony and Orange River Colony, as well as all General Officers Commanding in South Africa. It also states that the telegram was sent at 7.58am but peace was actually signed at 8.50 the previous evening. A remarkable and historic document, being the first announcement of the end of the Boer War. The document is mounted to a card backing sheet and was presumably once framed. Slight damage to mount not affecting the document
