MK Gandhi - Important autograph letter signed to his close associate, the author, film…

MK Gandhi - Important autograph letter signed to his close associate, the author, film maker and pioneer documentary maker Dinanath Gopal Tendulkar (1909-72) who is most famous outside India for his monumental eight volume biography of Gandhi which was published in 1951. 1p 8vo, signed 'Bapu' ('father' - a term often used to sign his letters.) 2 - 1 - HV, ND - My dear Tendulkar, Here are the addresses which I was able to correct between yesterday to this morning under severe stress. I have removed the inverted commas commencing with each paragraph. I hope you will understand all the corrections & that I have not been too late. Yours Bapu. D G Tendulkar, 407 Kalbadebi Rd, Bombay. The contents deal with corrections to be done by Gandhi in something that Tendulkar was writing, though it is possible that this was his work on his biography. It is unclear what date the letter was written but it has been suggested that '2-1-IIV ND' possibly indicates 1925 and ND as Nadiad, a place in Gujarat where Gandhi often stayed - though there is no reference to him being at that place during that year. All written in English and appeared in clear script, some tears apparent to edges which do not detract from text, the page measuring the letter is on a page of size 14.5 x 20 cm. This letter was gifted by DG Tendulkar himself to Sanat Kumar Bose in Kolkata who was a nephew of Subhas Chandra Bose in the year 1963. Sanat was an avid collector of historical memorabilia. It was purchased from the son of Sanat Kumar Bose. If this letter does in fact date from 1925, it was written in a year when Gandhi was at his most active. He had been released from his first prison term in the previous September, and during this year he was heavily involved in his movement to lead to an independent India
