Jack the Ripper Interest - Montague John Druitt Prize Trophy Cup 1876 - EPNS cup awarded to M J Druitt 1876 for Winchester College Senior Fives competition, height 16cm. Montague John Druitt (b.1857-d.1888) was the third child of a surgeon William Druitt. During his younger years Druitt was educated at Winchester college and in his final year there 1875-76 he was Prefect of Chapel, treasurer of the debating society, school fives champion and opening bowler or the cricket team. He became one of the leading suspects at the time of being Jack the Ripper after his apparent suicide in 1888 in which he disappeared in early December after being dismissed from Blackheath Boys School where he worked, for an unknown reason on 30th November, and was found in the Thames on December 31st, his pockets filled with stones to keep his body submerged but also carrying a large amount of money and gold still on their person when he was recovered. After this he became one of the leading suspects at the time due to his unexplained suicide happening not long after the last canonised Jack the Ripper murder of Mary Jane Kelly on 9th November
