To Inspect The Atlantic Telegraph Cable On Board The Great Eastern Now Lying Off Sheerness" June 17th 1865. This invitation addressed to Mr and Miss Manockjee Cursetjee - further stating "A SPECIAL TRAIN WILL LEAVE CHARING CROSS STATIONAT 12.00am. RETURNING AT 6.50pm". Printed in black and gold on card, size 6 3/4" x 4 3/4". This Reception was attended by the Prince of Wales and many notable people from Government, Financial and Commercial institutions. This first successful Transatlantic cable was financed to last for 5 years, but its share holders did very well as it lasted for 22 years. The Great Eastern constructed by Brunel was the largest ship of the 19th century and the only one that could carry the complete transatlantic cable
