William and Mary - Scotland - The Hearth Tax printed proclamation in the name of William III and Queen Mary II, dated 1690 for 'in-bringing the accompt of al the Hearths in this Kingdom'. On a single sheet of paper approx. 300x300mm (trimmed from original size). Together with a group of printed Acts of Parliament - George III - Victoria - various measures The 'Hearth Tax was on every fireplace in every property (therefore a tax on wealth) but it also affected those running hearths for industrial and trade purposes. It was abolished in England in 1689 following the Glorious Revolution but remained in Scotland
