1893 Royal North Devon Golf Club "Members" Photogravure style original print by Mayall & Co Ltd - an impressive image of the members of the 'Royal North Devon Golf Club, Westward Ho!' from 1893. The figures are all photographs superimposed onto a background of the course. In the margin is printed 'Permanent Autotype" and produced by Mayall & Co. Ltd. 73 Piccadilly'. Some foxing and age stains - image 23.5" x 36" mf&g c/w gilt slips 34.5 x 48". The image appears very much photographic but is more of a photomechanical print rather than a photograph. John Jabez Edwin Paisley Mayall (1813-1901) was an English photographer who in 1860 took the first carte-de-visite photographs of Queen Victoria. Note The picture was given to David Stirk in 1976 by Jack Gibson, son of Charles Gibson who was golf professional at RNDGC from 1888-1915 and then passed onto fellow member David Easby - c/w typed details laid down on the reverse.
