Historical Letters - good collection including: an interesting ALS of the 18th c horticulturalist James Justice dated January 15th 1740 concerning the purchase of an estate in Edinburgh, an ALS of Commodor James Biddle, American Naval commander dated 1827, during the height of the USA/Brazilian war, an interesting ALS dated 1829 being a testimony regarding the landing of boats in the 18th c at Hauxley, Northumberland; a printed notice with ms insertions dated 1773 being an appointment of Notary Public in Edinburgh (in need of minor conservation); an amusing ALS of Anne Rippon dated 1763 to her nephew who had written to her hearing that she was about to get married, and she has replied that this was a 'devilish lie' and she had 'no more thoughts of marriage at present than I had at the unhappy hour of my birth !' (somewhat weak and in need of conservation); an interesting letter written from America dated 1818 commenting on the situation in Florida and the actions of General Andrew Jackson in attacking Spanish posts in Florida; an interesting letter written from Italy dated July 1794 in which the writer reports on the naval situation against the French, commenting that Lord Hood keeps them at bay; A letter of 1849 referring to the Chinese wars, an autograph letter signed of the actress Madge Kendall, and a signature of Hugh Cecil
