Unique 2" Farlow all brass crank handle Multiplying Winch reel - with curved crank arm and horn handle, stamped with Farlow's fish trademark in the unusual position close to rim of backplate and no other markings. Believed to be an extremely early example made soon after Charles Farlow started in business at 221 Strand London, before he inscribed his early winches with the appropriate address and before he settled on stamping the fish trademark on the foot of winches. Possibly the earliest Farlow Multiplying Winch to come to auction. Compelling evidence to support this comes from the fact that the 2 inch Multiplying Winch was listed in Farlow's first catalogue of 1846 (Ref. Fishing Tackle: The Ultimate Collector's Guide' page 149)
