1920s Scarce Scotland White International Rugby Jersey issued to Dr A C Gillies - Unusual,…

1920s Scarce Scotland White International Rugby Jersey issued to Dr A C Gillies - Unusual, in that of course the Scots’ standard jersey was dark blue, but white was used for games against France, who also at times wore a (lighter) blue. A few marks but generally very good, full collar & buttons and with dark blue thistle badge. He played twice at home v France, in 1925 and 1927. Pictures exist showing that in 1926 away in Paris, Scotland wore blue, and that in 1921 and 1927 the Scots wore white for the French game. So, it seems fair to assume that they did in 1925, too. The jersey would appear, then, to have been worn in either 1925 or 1927. Note: Dr A C Gillies (Scotland, Watsonians, Carlisle and Manchester RFC) winner of 12 caps for the Scotland in the backrow – moved to Manchester, and captained the Club in 1928-29.
