India & Punjab – 1902 Durbar by Menpes, The Durbar, by Mortimer Menpes Text by Dorothy Menpes, 1903, 1st edition, 210pp, frontis [3], 4-210 pp, 100 coloured plates, each with a captioned tissue guard, each illustration being engraved and printed at the Menpes Press under the superintendence of Menpes. Includes colour plates of Sikhs warriors and akalees, rajput warriors and orderlies etc. Mortimer Luddington Menpes, was an Australian-born artist, author, printmaker and illustrator, who in 1901 he published War Impressions, the first of a series of books illustrated in colour from his sketches, with, in most cases, a text written by his daughter Dorothy. The first Durbar was held in 1877 to proclaim Queen Victoria as Empress of India. This was the second Durbar to proclaim Edward VII as king, in 1902 but was not attended by the King either.
