WELLS, WILLIAM PAGE ATKINSON - RBA (1872-1923) WESTWARD HO! – Royal North Devon Golf Course oil on board signed – image 12” x 16” - c/w original label laid down on the verso possibly 18th Green with 1st Hole and Starters Hut on the right. Note Born Glasgow in 1872 and studied at the Slade before moving to Sydney, Australia where he lived and worked for 5 years. Returned to Europe, working in Paris under Bouguereau and Ferrier in Paris. Lived in rural France for a time where he became an admirer of the Barbizon school. After a short stay in Glasgow he settled in Preston for 7 years as a scene painter before finally settling in Devon where he became well known for his rural and landscape scenes.
