Scottish International Cap season 1952/53 awarded to Billy Steel (of Dundee) for the home…

Scottish International Cap season 1952/53 awarded to Billy Steel (of Dundee) for the home international matches v Wales, Northern Ireland and England. Good. Billy Steel signed for Derby County in 1947 (after an outstanding performance in the 1947 Great Britain team v Rest of Europe at Hampden Park), the fee was £15,500, an enormous sum in the immediate post war years. In 1950 Dundee signed him from Derby for the sum of £22,500, it was a transfer that hit the headlines for a player to go north of the border for such a high amount; in the next few years Dundee secured the Scottish League Cup in 1952 and 1953 and were Scottish Cup finalists in 1952 providing a good club success for the investment. Billy left Dundee in 1954 when he moved to the USA and his Scotland international career ended with 30 appearances overall.
