Wanderings In South America by Charles Waterton 1839 The 307 page book recounts Waterton's…

Wanderings In South America by Charles Waterton 1839 The 307 page book recounts Waterton's experiences in the Guianas in search of the Wourali poison used by the Indians for poison arrows. His second and third journeys were to Brazil, and Guiana again, studying birds and other creatures, with much information on local settlements. His fourth journey was to New York state, Buffalo, eastern Canada and back to New York and Philadelphia, then on to the West Indies. Charles Waterton, naturalist, explorer, & a true English eccentric (he talked to insects, fought with snakes, rode an alligator and lived like a monk), was chiefly known for his writings on natural history and conservation - David Attenborough has described him as "one of the first people anywhere to recognize, not only that the natural world was of great importance, but that it needed protection as humanity made more and more demands on it". In original cloth board cover, 4½” × 7”.
