1880s-1950s Magnificent Collection of Early Rugby Prints/Engravings (26)

1880s-1950s Magnificent Collection of Early Rugby Prints/Engravings (26): Neatly displayed in a large black 17” x 14” ring-binder with plastic sleeves file, carefully-curated fine - some iconic - and all original press engravings, prints, cartoons, photographs, illustrated stories and oft-coloured periodical covers. They feature rugby action etc from publications in the UK, France, Australia and Argentina, most in splendidly clean sharp condition, a few mounted, many large, and sourced from issues like The Graphic, The Sphere, Tatler, The Bystander, the ILN and the ISDN, Sketch, Punch and so on. Artists incl S T Dadd, Ernest Prater, Frank Gillett and Paul Ordner, and subjects inc internationals, Varsity matches, cross-channel visits, club games and Mussolini in 1924 worrying about his own ‘All Blacks’! Particularly striking is a full page double spread from the turn of the century featuring Alderson and the ill-fated sporting hero A E Stoddart, who took over the ‘Lions’ captaincy from the drowned Seddon but took his own life in 1915. A great collecting opportunity – ‘all in one place’. G/VG, many excellent
