Wilson~s Great World Circus Silk Programme Friday 5th January 1883 (most likely in Calcutta). Grand Viceregal State Night under the Patronage of His Excellency; The Marquess of Ripon. Viceroy and Governor-General of India. An unusual programme as printed very finely on Silk. A very full night of entertainment with 18 Acts of Clowns, Jugglers, Bare ~backed horse riding without bridle, other Thorough-bred Horses, Lions from Africa and Negro lion-Tamer etc etc. Size 5¾| × 18½|. (Of particular featuring Edwin Moxon, (1857- 1945) who appeared with his Magic Tom-Tom act, and with the Moxon Brothers in their ~wonderful balancing act~ with a pyramid of chairs. He was born in Reading, ran away to join the circus aged 17 and travelled all over the world performing a balancing and foot-juggling act in circuses and variety theatres. He performed in Russia for seven years, spoke several languages fluently and had thirteen children. When they were old enough, the two eldest children were trained to join him in the family act, the Moxon Trio. His thirteenth child Eileen, who used the stage name Levanda, performed the act in circus and cabaret in the 1940s with her daughter Judy, appearing as Levanda and Van. Judy went on to travel the world with the act independently in the 1960s, performing tricks passed down from her grandfather).
