The North Briton Newspaper 1762 No 17 John Wilkes had named his radical weekly paper the North Briton in opposition to the Earl of Bute who had just become Prime Minister and who owned a paper The Briton. The first of Wilkes~s issues to achieve notoriety was this No 17, wholly devoted to an attack on Hogarth, disbound, minor water marked, A/G condition overall
