A rare book because it was published by Punjab government and not by a mainstream Indian or British publisher. Most of the book and the portraits relate to adventurers in Punjab and Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s court with chapters on Allard, Ventura, Avitabile, George Thomas, Alexander Gardiner, Charles Masson and Josiah Harlan apart from a very large number of lesser-known characters.
