Richard Walker Letters 1983 and Victor 100 Reel c/w spare spool (3) – dated 13th and 25th…

Richard Walker Letters 1983 and Victor 100 Reel c/w spare spool (3) – dated 13th and 25th July 1983 – 4p and 2p typed letters and hand signed Dick – the reel appears unused and comes with spare spool and line The first letter discussing the trials of the Victor rod (success down to Cloverley’s experience and skill) – and then going into great depth with regards to the reel used and series of Victor reels and the line capacity so on and so forth – but the whole business has left Dick a bit angry as he was never consulted about line capacities – and then going onto discussing the need for three spools - one to take about 200 yards of 10lb-12lb for the carp, pike and salmon fishers; one to take about 150 yards of 6lb for those after big Tench, Chub, Bream, etc. and one to take about 100yds for light tackle fishing like match or canal work - which he hoped eventually would succeed otherwise it was still a good reel. Walker as a designer didn’t want opinions from “famous anglers” who’s first thought is “what’s in it for me?” And would endorse any old rubbish if they got paid to do so, as many are” He then discusses his situation with “Angling Times” having recently finished his regular weekly columns and that he can no longer answer readers’ letters but didn’t mean that he wouldn’t answer globally is together with various other observations with regards to the constant flow of letters fishermen who think he can solve that Angling problems. The remaining 2 pages cover all subjects from cancer, the crime prevention officer who isn’t supposed to receive gifts such as trout and a bottle of wine! Some lovely references with regards to a letter from a cat (you will need to buy a letter to read it) et al 2nd letter dated 25th of July requesting Fibatube to send a Victor reel and pointing out various attributes and comparing it to Mitchell 301. Then Walker replies to Colverley’s recent catches and size of fish in relation to Walkers “my standards” which he goes on to describe as “any fish that can break your line unless you play it skilfully is a big one and with the tackle you are using, Tench of 3lb and Roach within 2 ounces of 2lb, are what I regard as very creditable fish indeed. It is true that I have caught bigger fish of both species but always from especially good waters and I have certainly never caught a roach as big as 1lb 14oz from any canal. So in short I think you are doing extremely well and I’m glad that my suggestion that you should use slightly heavier tackle and bigger hooks has paid off. Of course this does inevitably involve fewer bites, but in my experience, it not only leads to the hooking a bigger fish but also to their successful landing” signed Dick
