India & Punjab – Rare Photograph of Maharajah of Faridkot - Raja Wazir Singh, Ruler of Faridkot, born in 1811 and ruled from 1849 until his death on 22nd April 1874. Faridkot, located in Punjab, was controlled by the descendants of the Barar Jat tribe of Sikhs and they became independent Chiefs of Faridkot in 1782. During the first Sikh war in 1845, Sardar Parhar Singh (1827-1849) the chief of Faridkot, allied with the British and subsequently received the title of Raja and some neighbouring territory from Nabha. Wazir Singh served the British in the Upsrising of 1857 by guarding the Sutlej ferries and attacking a notorious rebel, for which he was rewarded with additional titles and honours.
