Rare 1931 Collection of ‘Rugger’ Weekly periodical: to incl a near complete run from issue No.3 publ’d in 1931 to the last published edition No. 28 in 1932 - all bar the first 2 issues of this self-billed ‘only Rugby Paper in Britain’, from October 3rd 1931 to March 26th 1932. Hugely rare; one searches in vain for any online mention or image. These are weekly newspapers/magazines on good paper and very clearly printed. This was a bold, confident publication with controversial articles, intriguing adverts, opinions, detailed stats, good illustrations and cartoons/caricatures. All have 8pp except the last two, with 4pp. That was sadly an omen. Despite a promise to be back to 8pp in September and with a target of 12, it relied heavily on the input of and interest by club volunteers, and there had clearly not been enough sales: the sad history of almost every rugby periodical in the history of the UK was continued and confirmed. This Sept. 1931-March 1932 run of ‘Rugger’ proved to be its first and only. Gold-dust, however: packed with info, nostalgia, hope and misplaced optimism. A collection very unlikely to be offered again any time soon - generally good or very good for their age. A few a little worn with folds, edge tears and browning, but most clean, clear and bright, esp. internally – generally (G) overall 17”x 11”. (26)
