India - Partition of India Document - An 8pp typed and signed document to the ‘Deewan at Gondal State’ regarding the resettlement and rehabilitation of refuges from newly formed Pakistan into Independent India, from the regional commissioner. The letter is attached to a ‘Statement showing number of refugees which can be absorbed in various states’, the statements shows over 80 princely states and the number of refuges they are to take together with remarks on ach states and its ability to cope with the refugees. States include Kashmir, Jaipur, Nawanagar Chamba Udaipur, Bharatpur, Bundi, Bhopal, Suket, Indore, Mandi, ect. A detailed record of one of the biggest movement of people in the modern times at the time of the independence of India, whereby Muslims left newly formed India towards Pakistan, and Sikhs and Hindus from the newly formed Pakistan migrated to India.
