Wells, William Page - RBA (1872-1923) WESTWARD HO! – oil on board signed – image 12” x 16” - c/w original label laid down on the verso Note Born Glasgow in 1872 and studied at the Slade before moving to Sydney, Australia where he lived and worked for 5 years. Returned to Europe, working in Paris under Bouguereau and Ferrier in Paris. Lived in rural France for a time where he became an admirer of the Barbizon school. After a short stay in Glasgow he settled in Preston for 7 years as a scene painter before finally settling in Devon where he became well known for his rural and landscape scenes.
