Confederates States – Bombardment at Vicksburg – Important Send by Confederate General ‘Absalom Madden West’ - Dated 1st August 1862 - Detailing the suffering of families during the bombardment and providing for those made destitute. Mentioning General Petter (or Pettus) will do what he can from his supplies, but requesting additional provisions from the Northern Counties of the State. Size Manuscript document of 25 lines (some 200 words) and signed by General A.M. West. Also another letter sent to Quarter Master General C.S.A in Richmond regarding want of pay for State Troops dated 2nd March 1863. He was a noted Confederate General during the Civil War, he was also President of the Mississippi Central Railroad and oversaw the rebuilding of several ruined railroads after the war. As well as serving the State and National Governments in 1876 he was an elector for the Democratic presidential ticket.
