Sir Winston Churchill (1874-1965) Original Telegram issued on Western Union and dated April 1945 to the Editor of the New Republic Magazine, 40 East 49th Street, New York, relaying his personal message on the death of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt for the magazine’s Roosevelt memorial number. The message on a 4to Western Union sheet reads like a typical Churchillian speech; ‘…during the years of close contact and cooperation between the English speaking world, the late President Roosevelt became to me not only a dear and valued friend but also the personification of the firm and brave spirit which characterizes the American peoples…we do well to honour his name and be proud that we have lived in his time…’, an interesting item in A/G condition overall
