Rare 1904 Waipa (New Zealand) Rugby Union club cap – with embroidered front panel W.R U with date 1904 below – has the original makers label for J.A Cooper Auckland and players name written in ink “A Bertram” - trim now coming away, lining frayed (distressed) Note Waipa Rugby Union Club a country union based in Te Awamutu and absorbed into Waikato around the time of the Second World War. An A Bertram did play for Te Awamutu and Waipa RU at the relevant time and the maker would support this. Also an identical Cap can be found in the Te Awamutu Museum which belonged to Geoffrey Bowden
