Rare 1908 New Zealand v Northern Union (England) official rugby league programme – 1st test match between both countries played at Headingley on Saturday 25th January with Northern Union winning 14-6 but New Zealand went onto win the series 2-1 – single card with vertical fold, some stains and soiling, minor nick at the top and bottom of the fold (AF) Note: most of the matches were played under the rules of the Northern Union which is known today as rugby league and the 2 rearranged internationals against England in the South gave the Northern Union an opportunity to expand their game into areas of England dominated by rugby union and association football. The tour by NZ was really the birth of rugby league as it’s known today and had a large role in establishing rugby league in both Australia and New Zealand and the Northern Union
