Beautiful 1886 Birmingham Day’s Souvenir Silk Programme entitled ‘Day’s Crystal Palace Concert Hall Birmingham in Smallbrook Street’ date 23rd September 1886. Grand special Performance being the 24th Anniversary of this Magnificent Hall. Large bill of 31 different acts Including Harry Randall then a great comedian of the Music Hall and close friend of Dan Leno. It was in this year at Day’s Crystal Palace and at the Theatre Royal, Birmingham for the Christmas season in Robinson Crusoe, he established himself as a leading entertainer in both Music Hall and pantomime. Obverse; Detailing with listing the Acts etc. The reverse has a most magnificent view of the interior of this Concert Hall. Ornately printed in blue and red, condition is good, measures 23 x 30cm approx. Note: Days Crystal Palace Concert Hall opened on 18th October 1862. It was sold to Edward Moss of the Moss Empires Ltd. chain in September 1893, and was partially altered to build his new Empire Palace Theatre. The Empire Palace of Varieties opened on 7th May 1894 with Gus Ellen topping the bill. All the top names in music hall and variety played at the Birmingham Empire, including Marie Lloyd and Harry Lauder. The end came abruptly in October 1940, when the Empire Theatre was hit by German bombs, and was left in ruins.
