1957 Ben Hogan unique hand written postcard – addressed to the Chief of Police Kilmarnock…

1957 Ben Hogan unique hand written postcard – addressed to the Chief of Police Kilmarnock Ayrshire following the return of his golf clubs and reads “thanks very much for your cooperation regarding the golf clubs found on Fenwick Moore. Your officer concerned is in the wrong position he should be an auctioneer. Recommend for a post in Israeli yours Ben Hogan” postmark Belfast July 1957 slightly worn with creases. Note The lot comes with the letter of provenance from the police officers son which tells the story regarding a set of golf clubs handed in the police station. An American visited the station and it was discovered that his golf clubs had been found. When the American was asked for a description, he said the clubs were worth about $10,000 to him. Before he was allowed to take possession the officer told him that in Scotland there was what was known as a finder’s fee which was normally 10% of the value. He couldn’t release the clubs until he received payment. Upon which the American stated he had over exaggerated the value and the clubs were worth a lot less, eventually a sum was agreed. 2/3 months later his father received the above post card!!
