British Politics ‘Profumo Affair’ interesting items removed from Stephen Ward’s flat…

British Politics ‘Profumo Affair’ interesting items removed from Stephen Ward’s flat after his suicide during his trial in 1963. Items include, Christine Keeler’s gold plated vanity set. All complete and in its fitted ivory coloured calf leather case, monogrammed ‘C.K’ in gold leaf. Bought for Christine’s birthday, but presumably not gifted by Stephen Ward, a collection of 24 Soviet Union period and dated 1955, coloured postcard views of Moscow, some with ink annotated to reverse, a Russian K.G.B enamelled badge complete with typical Russian screw fastener, a cased set of three elaborate Russian lace ladies handkerchiefs and two EPNS hinged oyster boats and an vasaline glass shaped platter. All items removed from Stephen Wards flat after his suicide during his trial in 1963. Originally consigned by an associate of Eddie Marks, the clerk of Stephen Ward’s barrister and there purchased by the present vendor in 1991. Note: The famous ‘Profumo Affair’ rocked the Conservative Government in 1963 and almost destroyed the British establishment with call girls (Christine Keeler), Russian spies, lying ministers, sex, drugs etc. It lead to the resignation of the Minister for War John Profumo. Central to ‘the scandal’ was Stephen Ward, a London high society osteopath who became the fixer for call girls and the governing British establishment. He was prosecuted for living off the immoral earnings of prostitution in 1963 but committed suicide before the conclusion of his trial. Various conspiracy theories exist with once suggesting that he was killed by MI5.
