Stanley Matthews Trophy awarded to honour a player in a football match in Kenya May 1956, Matthews playing for the FA Kenya XI against a local African side. The trophy was awarded to the vendor and consists of a polished hardwood shield shaped plaque has a raised metal centre showing a footballer in action, below it states “Matthews – Cup Winner 1956”. Also has an easel type attached strut so the trophy can be displayed in an upright position. Comes complete with newspaper match reports and a photograph of Stan Matthews with some players, the vendor standing next to Stan in the photograph. Also enclosed is the official letter confirming the vendor’s invitation to play with Stanley Matthews in the football match. Stan Matthews gave up his time to visit Africa in the 1950s to give coaching lessons to the local football players and to encourage the sport in that part of the world.
