1924/25 Herbert Sutcliffe - England & Yorkshire Cricketer – fine and large engraved silver plated presentation drinks tray given to Herbert Sutcliffe following his remarkable batting figures against Australia - engraved to the centre “To Herbert Sutcliffe From a Few Yorkshire Admirers in Recognition of His Wonderful Test Match Scores Australia 1924-1925” - overall 17.5” x 27” max - the base stamped with makers assay marks for Harrison Brothers & Howson London. See later lot no. 189. Note although England lost the series 4–1, Sutcliffe was the first batsman to score a hundred in each innings of a test against Australia and became the 1st Englishman to score 3 successive hundreds in test cricket and his first 3 partnerships with Hobbs against Australia produced stands of 157, 110 and 283. Sutcliffe scored 734 runs in the five Tests at an average of 81.55 with 4 centuries, 2 half-centuries and a highest score of 176. In the whole tour, he scored 1,250 runs at 69.44 with 5 centuries and a highest score of 188
