Indian Original Artwork Syed Haider Raza (born 22 February 1922) chalk study of a street scene at night with two cars, and street lights, signed ‘Raza ‘51’ to bottom left hand corner. Matted for framing approx 38x27cms. A study dating from one of the most important periods of Raza’s long life – when he founded the Bombay Progressive Artists Group, along with Ara and Souza. He is still active and was awarded the prestigious Padma Vibhushan by the Indian Government. We are pleased to offer this and the three following lots which are examples of his work. Raza is now one of the most sought after Indian modern artists, and in 2010 superseded F N Souza in achieving the highest price for a work of Indian Modern Art when a seminal work, 'Saurashtra' sold for $3.5million.
