India – Silver Drinking Set. A northern Indian 19th c silver set, comprising of a jug, with baluster body rising form an openwork raised foot, the repousse decoration depicting various Indian gods including Krishna, Skanda and Devi interspersed with hanging palmettes between two foliate registers, six goblets with similar designs and a punch bowl on four feet worked as foliated rising palmettes, with bulbous body, the decorating arranged in lobed medallions with various village life scenes, very good condition. The jug 26cms high. The quality and workmanship of this drinking set suggests that it would have belonged to a high ranking or noble family of India. Provenance: purchased by the present vendor from Garrard & Co. of Regent Street, London in 1989.
