This rare copy is Volume 2 printed in 1855 and contains several lithographs including Skizzevom Pandschaboderdem Funf-Strom-Lande. Drawn by Hermann Berghaus depicting the land either side of the Indus with cross coloured provinces. One of the leading geographical periodicals of its time, Petermanns Geographische Mitteilungen, as it was familiarly known, began in 1855 by the renowned cartographer August Heinrich Petermann, who drew most of the maps in the early years himself. Issued monthly, Petermanns Geographische Mitteilungen published the reports of explorers, surveyors, geographers, geologists, etc from all over the world, often accompanied by up-to-date maps. A highly-important document in world history.
