India – Sikh warrior watercolour of a Nihung c1900s on heavy card stock, mounted on heavy paperboard, Nihang Singh or Sikh religious warrior or spear-bearer, “ELOE” - signed lower right, Eastern Indian warrior sporting a full black beard, red dumaala or turban and holding a long spear, in blue robe with golden sash and buttons, brushed blue graduating to white background. 3.5” wide, 6” tall. Appears to be an artist copy of “spear-bearer from Jind”. Illustrations were published in a book describing the Delhi Durbar held on New Year Day, 1903 for the coronation of King Edward VII. One hundred illustrations were made from paintings by Mortimer Menpes, text by Dorothy Menpes.
