India – Gandhi fine album compiled by a British Soldier entitled ‘The Assault on India’ featuring a number of snapshot photographs taken in India, press cuttings, a booklet on the Amritsar Massacre, cartoons related to the struggle for Indian independence, some from the 19th c, together with a calligraphic manuscript narrative, mainly based on the work of William L Shirer, tracing the history of the struggle for Indian independence throughout the 19th c and on into the final granting of independence by the British. A painstaking piece of work which provides a comprehensive history of India, with considerable references to the role of Gandhi in bringing about the freedom of the country.
