Dated in Roman Numerals. 422pp. Marble boards fine - binding former bookplate - title page is inscribed with a name and date (1894). The book is made up of 13 "Sketches" "General Reflections on the History and Religion of mankind", "Sources of Information concerning Hindostan", "Sketch of the History of Hindostan" etc. On the Sikhs, he writes (p 359) that Guru Nanak Ji was born in 1470, his father’s name, and the birthplace of Telvendi Lahore, he travelled as far as Ceylon, Persia and Arabia that took up 15 years. The two sons of Guru Nanak Ji are also mentioned, the author goes on to mention the succession to Guru Gobind Singh Ji. It's interesting the states that Guru Tegh Bahadhur Ji the 9th Guru was the first military leader when in fact it was the 6th Guru. The execution of Banda Singh Bahadhur along with his family are (p 364) is also noted. An extract of the character of the Sikhs ' They are naturally hardy a strong race of men, and, by their hardy manner of living, are capable of enduring much fatigue' an account of Tipu Sultan is also provided. Quintin Craufurd (22 September 1743 – 23 November 1819), a British author, In early life he went to India, where he entered the service of the British East India Company.
