India – Sikh History. Two finely painted miniatures of The Maharajah Gulab Singh and the Raja of Karputhala dated 1874, heightened in gold. Superbly executed in intricate detail. Such miniatures were painted using the tinniest hairs from a Squirrel’s tail. Seated on gold painted chairs, the regal splendour of the Maharajah’s position in the Sikh Courts of Ranjit Singh is lovingly captured by the artist. Size 6cm by 5cm.
