William III An Act for the better Security of His Majesties Royal Person and Government, November 22nd 1695. Disbound folio 14pp plus title, paper a little browned but otherwise legible throughout. An important Act against the forces of James II in the wake of the Battle of the Boyne. The Act required all officers to take the Oath of Allegiance and Supremacy and made is a traitorous offence for anyone to suggest that William III was not the rightful King or that James Francis Stuart (the ‘Old Pretender’) or his late father James II had any claim to the Crown. It also made it an offence of High Treason for anyone to return to England from France without a licence.
