Exceptionally rare death warrant 1785 – Crime and Punishment – manuscript death warrant…

Exceptionally rare death warrant 1785 – Crime and Punishment – manuscript death warrant signed by James Adair, Recorder of London and addressed to the Sheriffs of the City of London and the Keeper of His Majesties Gaol of Newgate, informing them that John Thomson alias Wrinkle had been condemned to death at the Session of Gaol, and ordering that the sentence be carried out on the 26th of April 1785 ‘...on a scaffold to be erected for that purpose before His Majesty’s Gaol of Newgate.’ Thompson had been convicted of burglary. The document carries the black seal which was customary for death warrants. An exceptionally rare document, together with a modern print out of the details of the case.
