Crimean War fine coloured lithograph by Day & Sons showing a Christmas Dinner on the Heights before Sebastopol dated May 22nd 1855. A famous image, showing members of the 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards seated somewhat awkwardly around a table enjoying a sumptuous feast with patriotic flags draped in the rear. The original outline drawing by William Simpson is in the British Library. This image may have been an early example of political statement- showing the luxurious conditions for officers in a war where the rank and file soldiers were subjected to extreme cold, deprivation and disease. Rare. Approx 36x24cm, framed and glazed in good fresh condition.
